On Tuesday, the city civic body’s tax department sealed 9,988 properties across the city for defaulting on property tax. The highest number of properties sealed, 9,247, were in the West Zone. During the sealing drive, officials recovered a total of Rs 11.41 crore in tax dues, including Rs 6.26 crore from the West Zone alone.A statement from the civic body said 64 properties in the Central Zone, 243 in the North, 55 in East, 284 in North West and 28 properties in the South West Zones were sealed.
The sealed properties included shops in commercial complexes on Ashram Road such as the West Bank, Oxford Avenue, Videocon Arizona and Rajkamal Plaza. Several shops in commercial complexes on CG Road including City Civic Centre and Golden Triangle Complex were sealed. Shops and offices in Baronet Complex and Simandhar Complex in Sabarmati and Supath Complex in Vadaj were also sealed.AMC said tax dues of Rs 23 lakh were recovered from the HP petrol pump in Ranip. The civic body said that if property owners don’t pay up even after the sealing, water and electricity supply will be cut.
